Why You Must Be Rich
September 15, 2016

How else will you be able to live fully and live up to your full potentials without the resources to do so.

Money gives you options in life; it gives you control.

Rather than waiting for life to happen to you, you create your life the way you want it. Money buys you things that will help to nurture and develop you. Living to your full potential requires a comfortable environment to do so. Living to your full potential requires that you have the right tools and you can only buy them with money

Below are my reasons why I think you must be rich

Self Esteem and Recognition: I believe that this is the most frustrating thing about not being rich. You can’t fully express yourself the way we would love to because there is this nagging self-doubt, that tiny voice in your head that always reminds you of how unworthy you are because your purse does not measure up.

Not only your mind reminding you but everyone around you through their actions and utterances. As a result, you hide whenever you are in the midst of people.

In the village, your kinsmen would never listen to you. Even if they will listen, they will first check out the car you drive. If it’s not up to standard, you are on your own. God help you if you don’t even have any. They would look at you as if saying – who even gave you the right to talk. The elders among your kinsmen who knows much about how the affairs of the people should be run, do not listen to each other any longer. They listen to anybody who gives them fat envelope during the Christmas celebrations to the detriment of the people.

In the church, the same thing.

You have been in the church for years. You attend the morning service, the afternoon service, the evening service and even the midnight service (if there is anything like that). You sacrifice your time for church programs and help out in whatever way the church might need you to help.

But for one day, you have never been recognized.

And you have done this for years, even decades. But someone, who only started to worship with your church just ten months ago received an award for his services to the church. Why?

Because he donated millions to the church.

Not only him who received the award. The mother, who may not have stepped her foot on the church for one day, but the church will find her and christen her Nne ora – mother of all. All these, because he is rich. But you have been in that church all your life, sweeping floors, cleaning chairs, making sure that the altar is well decorated, singing in the choir, wearing all manner of robes and then attending all the service the church have ever held in your lifetime.

But you have been in that church all your life, sweeping floors, cleaning chairs, making sure that the altar is well decorated, singing in the choir, wearing all manner of robes and then attending all the service the church have ever held in your lifetime.

Who deserves the award for the services to the church? I think it’s you because you have really served your church. But you don’t have money. So they feel you don’t deserve the award.

We lose our friends because they have moved up financially. Because you are not rich, you are belittled. We are christened nobody. How do you feel when people call you nobody? When people, through their actions and words shows you in your face that you are nobody, there is nothing more disrespectful.

  1. It Gives You Choices:

If there is anything that lets you live the way you want, it is money.

We choose what we want to do with our life, we choose what we do with our time. You travel because you want to travel not because you are told to travel.

Our society has programmed our lives for us. We are told when to work, which might not suit us, we are told to dress in a certain way which we despise. Someone I know left a job he loves because it does not pay well to another job he hates because it pays better. He hates this job to the extent that the way the office smells irritates him.

To be able to create our lives the way we want, we must learn how to acquire wealth so that when we choose to work on something, we will do it because we love it not because we need the money. When we live, we live for the sheer joy of living not for the frustrating pursuit of money.

  1. Love and Compassion:

Our world needs so much love. But without money, love cannot be expressed to its fullest.

This is because giving nourishes love.

Giving is the greatest ingredients to love. On giving love thrives.

You can give anything, even your time. But your time is not enough. A downtrodden may not feel loved if you visit him every day, but will feel loved if you visit him with food and gifts. Your children will feel loved when you buy them ice cream and toys. Your younger ones will feel loved if you buy them airtime and when you subscribe their phone for the month, you become a darling.

There is so much good in us that at some point we will love to help people. How can we do this if we have no money? How can we engage in charity works? Maybe, you have a history of a particular illness which you miraculously survived and you vowed to help doctors and researchers who are working tirelessly to make sure that the disease is eradicated from the face of the earth.

How can you do this if you have nothing?

Money is important and anybody who tells you otherwise is deceiving you. Anybody who tells you it is evil to chase money, that it’s possessors are dishonest, do not want you to live your life to its fullest. They want you to have a mediocre life. While would you go for mediocrity when there is an opportunity for excellence. Having money shows you are noble, that you are responsible for yourself and the people around you and to your country.

Our society behaves in a certain way that recognizes those with money. If you work so hard and have nothing to show for it, the society behaves as if you don’t even exist. Why is it? Why do we work so hard and yet we struggle financially?

You work hard more than the rich. You work from morning till evening, they go to their office whenever they like and go home whenever they like. Sometimes they don’t go to their office for days. You pray more than them. You go to church frequently. You go to every night vigil or crusade that promises you that this time, that devil that has been tormenting you and your pockets will be crushed once and for all. The rich, they hardly go to church. So what is it? You work hard, you pray hard, where is the problem from?

The truth is that wealth have got rules and the rich have been keeping these rules since they were young that is why they are rich now. Wealth has got rules and to be wealthy, you must keep its rules otherwise it will keep running away from you.

How do you learn these rules? Invest in the knowledge. You’ll not be wealthy because you are the smartest, or have the best education, or because you are very lucky, or the most talented or the most prayerful, but because you are living your life and spending your money in ways that give you room to grow wealthy. Buy the best books on personal finance and money building and learn. Learning is not easy, and keeping to the rules of making money is not easy either because it entails a lot of sacrifices. But you’ll thank yourself in the next five to ten years when you see massive changes to your finances.

You can also keep tabs on this blog. You can learn from the quotes, book reviews, and book recommendations. But most of the books are works based on what is happening or happened in other parts of the world. This blog is about us, about Nigerians. You’ll know how the various policies in Nigeria and other things happening in Nigeria affects you and your pockets.

Let your journey to wealth begin.
